The General Authority of Customs announced the application of a new customs tariff on imported hybrid cars (hybrid and electric) at a rate of (15) percent, starting from the first of next January.
The Director General of the Authority, Thamer Qasim Dawood, said, according to the official newspaper, that “the decision also includes the mandatory application of Iraqi specifications for imported cars,” indicating that “the procedure will be applied to cars with a model of (2025) and above.”
He stressed that "these steps come within the framework of regulating car import operations, raising the level of quality and safety, as well as protecting the consumer from vehicles that do not conform to approved specifications.
He pointed out that the decision aims to reduce traffic congestion and regulate random import operations, in line with public safety requirements and the national interest.
