Oil Minister to "Baghdad Today": Opening of the OT2 unit in "West Qurna 1"

Date 2/11/2025

Oil Minister Hayyan Abdul Ghani Al-Sawad announced today, Sunday (November 2, 2025), the opening of the OT2 unit in the West Qurna field in Basra Governorate.
Al-Sawad told Baghdad Today that "the field will contribute to improving and increasing the gas separation capacity at the West Qurna 1 station by 210,000 barrels per day."
West Qurna 1, located in southern Iraq, is one of the world's largest oil fields and represents a key part of Baghdad's tools to boost its production capacity to meet growing global energy demand.
The oil field, located 50 kilometers northwest of Basra Governorate, occupies a strategic position in Iraq’s plans to develop the energy sector and enhance its economic resources, as it is part of a series of giant fields in the country that contain huge reserves of crude oil.
